Brothers Haroon, Idris, and Zeki Mokhtarzada—all University of Maryland alumni—came up with the idea for the Hatchery in 2019 when the University of Maryland’s new Brendan Iribe Center for Computer Science and Engineering was just opening its doors. In 2021, the Hatchery became a reality.

Haroon (B.A. ’01, economics), Idris (B.S. ’10, computer science), and Zeki (B.S. ’01, computer science and mathematics) Mokhtarzada are renowned serial entrepreneurs and University of Maryland alumni. They have left an indelible mark on the tech world through their innovative ventures and strategic investments.

Together, the brothers co-founded Rocket Money (formerly Truebill), a prominent personal finance app that has revolutionized financial management. Haroon leads as CEO, while Idris serves as the company's CTO, headquartered in Silver Spring, Maryland, with offices in San Francisco. Zeki, meanwhile, holds the position of CTO at Tenovos, an online software company specializing in digital marketing solutions. Before Tenovos, he co-founded Thum.io.

Their entrepreneurial journey began with Webs.com, a widely-used website creation platform boasting 50 million users before its acquisition by Vistaprint in 2011.

Beyond their business endeavors, the brothers are committed angel investors, backing over 100 technology startups. Their investments span innovative ventures such as Instacart, Carta, Relativity Space, and PlutoTV. Their passion extends beyond profit, as they actively support technology's potential for social good, engaging in philanthropic initiatives and non-profit work.

In 2019, University of Maryland alumni Haroon, Idris, and Zeki Mokhtarzada conceived the idea for the Hatchery, inspired by the opening of the Brendan Iribe Center for Computer Science and Engineering. This vision transformed into reality in 2021, with the Hatchery finding its home within the new facility.
